The NBA All-Star game was last night. I missed it, and not on purpose. I just didn't realize it was on. And I spend several hours a day watching sports, or reading about sports online and in print. I just missed it. This speaks poorly for the NBA. 15-20 years ago it was appointment viewing. I loved the NBA All-Star game. Now I don't even know when it's on.
From highlights, and the Jim Rome Show, it's clear that LeBron James in not Michael Jordan. And not just because sports junkies like myself are unaware that when the All-Star game is (when Jordan was the face of the league, I knew when it was). Jordan would have sooner fought his coach and teammates than pass up the last shot. LeBron James isn't going to fight anyone, about anything. The NBA needs bad blood, mean players, rivalries, and more fighting. If I want showman's ship and dunks, I'll watch the globe trotters. When I want competitive basketball, I watch the NCAA. It wasn't that long ago the NBA Finals were shown on tape delay. Today's players may be too young to remember, but they could be headed for a blunt reminder.
